There are 35 beaches that are spread along the coast of Aguileño. We are now going to offer a brief description of the main beaches. Our journey starts with the neighbouring region of Andalusia.
This is one of the region’s most emblematic beaches, situated about 5 Km from the town, easily reached by road carretera de Almería located towards the east offering spectacular views of the town and of the castle’s promontory. A fine abundantly sanded beach, gradually going down towards the water. Protected from the winds coming in from southern and western side. Due to occasional eastern winds swimming is sometimes prohibited.
Located 4.5 Km from town, known as the cuatro Calas (four coves) a spectacular beach along with the adjoining ones, spread across an extension of long golden sand which gently submerge into the clear blue sea water. Accessed from the eastern side, protected from in coming winds from the west although less so towards the southern eastern side. Located in front is a small rocky island, known by the local fisherman as La Cama de los Novios (The lover’s bed) Easily reached by road.
Located 3,8 Km. Considered to be the longest and widest in the area with a long stretch of beach, where even small sandy hills are formed along the adjoining salt marshes. The sun comes up around noon. A central promontory houses a small youth hostel thus dividing the beach in half: Calarreona-Las Tortugas (On the west) and Calarreona-La Cabaña (the oriental side) Easily reached; the beach gradually goes down towards the sandy bottomed sea.
Thanks to the restoration carried out a few years ago, this beach extends from la Casica Verde until reaching el espigón de La Colonia. Formed by a mixture of sand and gravel, the beach gradually goes down towards the sea, although in some areas a harsh step down can be found, especially in the centre part.
Located within the town, accessed from the southern side, partially protected from incoming eastern winds thanks to the castle’s promontory (it is from there the beach is formed) This beach spreads right up to el espigón where la playa Poniente ends. It is here the old fishmongers could be found, the port de poniente and the health resorts. Surrounded by gardens, palm trees, also equipped with a recreation area.

Located within the town’s centre, forming part of the bay de Levante. This beach is spread between the marine and the local fishing port. The sea is sandy bottomed and easily reached. Recognised as one of the more traditional beaches of Águilas.
Another spectacular beach found within the area, located between the nautical club and the promontory La Aguilica. Today it is considered to be one of the area’s finest beaches. Formed by grey coloured sand gradual going down towards the sandy bottomed sea (apart from the strip near to the opening of la Rambla de Las Culebras). This beach takes up almost the length of the bay de Levante and is seen as one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful beaches. The marine and the beach both boast having a blue flag since1992 and has also been awarded with the Q for quality. All services available, including a recreational sports area on the beach. Easily reached. Situated towards the town’s oriental border accessed from the eastern side, protected from windy weather thanks to the Isla del Fraile this beach also runs through a strip of land between the old mineral loading bay el Hornillo and the area of sea in close proximity to the island El Fraile. Entrance to the sandy bottomed sea water is considered to be even. Popular with the young.
Situated 2 Km from the town. Can be reached in car by a track that splits off from the la carretera de Calabardina road which crosses a small town, or through a pathway which stems from El Hornillo it is here one can appreciate the spectacular panoramic views of the bay and the island el Fraile. The uniqueness of this beach lies in the colour of its sand from which its name is given plus its location accessed from the eastern side and protected from the wind by the island. It is here the beach can be seen separated by a narrow canal of not much more than 50 metres and 1, 5 metres deep, considered dangerous for swimming during bad weather. The wind coming in from the east usually increases in insensitivity around the straits between the island and the beach, making the sea water appear extremely clear and of a high quality. During the summer months it is used for a number of sailing events. It is regarded as an area rich in archaeological remains.
If we wish, our route can be carried out on foot, we have deliberately left out a number of coves such as La Cueva de las Palomas, Matalentisco their discovery will no doubt bring a pleasant surprise to any traveller.
On leaving the beach El Cigarro straight on from the beach la Amarilla, we carry on towards the el Cabo de Cope whose mass of stone slowly turning into lead falls into the Mediterranean. If we continue in this direction we pass through a number of beaches such as El barranco de la mar, La Playa del Arroz, El Pino, La Cola upon arriving to Calabardina.
Located 7 Km from the town. Very easily reached. Various small towns run through the area la Almadraba (no longer there) which during several centuries a number of fisherman’s houses could be found. El Cabo de Cope seen as being a jealous and powerful guard protects the beach from winds coming in from the east, and also acts as an excellent anchorage for boats. The sun comes up around noon time, a fine sandy beach gradually going down towards the sandy bottomed clear blue sea water. The old embarkation now used for small boats and where many diving clubs set off. It has also been witness to a number of fishing captures from years ago bought in from theAlmadraba.
Crossing the isthmus that joins Cabo Cope with the coast, we find ourselves amongst a number of beaches accessed from the eastern side, these spread from la Ensenada de la Fuente until la Galera it is here even in the middle of summer where the only sound one can hear is that of a few seagulls.
