Occupying a surface area of 253.7 Kms2 and surrounded by 28 Kms of Mediterranean coast line. Inland Murcia is composed of a mountainless abrupt and unequal landscape Average yearly temperature are about 25.2° C, thus allowing for mild and relatively warm Winters, while the summer months are normally warm and dry. Each year about 3,100 hours of sunlight can be enjoyed, with very few rainy days. Águilas is located between three busy airports, with a high influx of tourists travelling in; the airport of Alicante (90 minutes away), airport of Murcia and the airport of Almería (70 minutes away) accessed by motorway or by dual carriageway. The view from the majestic promontory of the castle of San Juan de Las Águilas, used as a defence tower by different settlers throughout its history, is really rather impressive. Below it, the town of Águilas is spread out, with its beautiful port, its beach promenades and the charming serene beauty of the bays de Levante and Poniente. In the back ground the slim figure of the «Chimenea de La Loma» (The Chimney of Hillock) stands out, symbolising last century’s mining boom. |
